Projects 16 Fifth Avenue

Hill West collaborated with Robert A.M. Stern Architects and Acheson Doyle Partners on the development of 16 Fifth Avenue in the heart of Greenwich Village.

This project involves replacing two five-story buildings dating back to 1848 with a 19-story residential tower that harmonizes with the historic character of the neighborhood. Securing approval from the Landmarks Preservation Commission (LPC) was a pivotal aspect of this effort. Our team engaged in extensive consultations with the LPC, local preservationists, and community stakeholders to ensure the design respected the Greenwich Village Historic District’s architectural heritage.

The approved design features a warm brick facade with limestone accents, reflecting the traditional materials found throughout Greenwich Village. The building’s setbacks and proportions are carefully calibrated to complement the surrounding streetscape, ensuring a seamless integration into the historic district. This approach demonstrates our commitment to preserving the architectural integrity of the neighborhood while introducing a contemporary residential development.

Throughout the Landmarks Approval Process, our collaborative approach and dedication to contextual design were instrumental in achieving a successful outcome. This project exemplifies Hill West Architects’ expertise in navigating complex regulatory environments and our unwavering commitment to creating architecture that respects and enhances its historical context.
