In collaboration with Cary Tamarkin, Hill West Architects converted a Landmarked private school built in 1908 into a condominium building.
Each of the 13 condominiums, offer a variety of 3-bedroom, 4-bedroom, or 5-bedroom layouts, each with a unique floor plan. The historic facade of the building was restored with its original detailing intact. The architecturally luxurious spaces that once housed classrooms and libraries, were weaved into brand new residences with exceptional character.
555 West End contains two penthouses, The Terrace Penthouse and The Solarium Penthouse. The top floor of the Terrace Penthouse was added on to the original building, while maintaining the historic integrity. The Solarium Penthouse, was repurposed from the former school’s gym to a premium living space featuring a skylit, high-ceiling living room. Another unit with a unique layout, the Library, is a 5-bedroom duplex which features a 42-foot-long Great Room, and other luxurious details, like the white oak cabinets and marble countertops and backsplashes of the kitchens.
Paying particular attention to maintaining the original architecture, the historic facade of the building was restored with its original detailing, like beautifully carved stone facade elements and limestone window bays.
