Projects The Houston

The Houston is a meticulously designed residential building at the intersection of the East Village and Lower East Side.

Located along bustling Houston Street, 280 East Houston Street’s main facade presents a carefully calibrated flow and proportion to achieve visual balance. Metal trim and window walls break up the structure’s length, piercing the facade to create an asymmetrical elevation. This approach gives the building a dynamic, modern aesthetic while preserving proportional harmony.

To maintain consistent pier dimensions, Hill West adjusted the window distribution to establish a harmonious rhythm across the facade. Bedrooms on the main elevation use consistent window sizes, while the living rooms take advantage of a larger opening coupled with another adjacent window to enhance the space’s depth and scale.

A window wall running from the cellar to the amenity roof outside of the elevator bank offers sweeping views to the south, framing the downtown skyline. This vertical element not only brings daylight deep into the building’s core but also connects with the fenestration of the residential corridors, ensuring that residents encounter light and views as they move to and from their homes. The result is a brighter, more welcoming circulation experience that reinforces the building’s sense of openness and connection to the city.

Whitehall Interiors leads the interior design for both the amenities and residential units, delivering a cohesive and sophisticated living experience throughout the project.
